Schar Cancer Institute
In May of 2019, Northern Virginia’s biggest hospital group hit another milestone. Schar Cancer Institute began to treat patients at Inova Fairfax Hospital’s Campus.
A project many years in the making, Inova is leasing the property and has an option to buy the 117 acre site at a later date, worth $180 million.
The Schar Institute has continued to see development since its inception.
The most important and inspiring aspect of this site is the individuals and families that will be helped by this new Inova cancer center.
Inova has revealed that the center will focus on both current and emerging treatments for patients affected with cancer. It also will have a focus research and counseling services for patients and their families.
The institute employs 500 medical staff to the new center, with more being added down the line.
More About INOVA Fairfax Hospital
There are a selection of single family homes, townhomes and also some condos to choose from. There is something for most tastes and budgets.
Inova Fairfax Hospital, located at 3300 Gallows Road, Falls Church, VA 22042, is the largest hospital in Northern Virginia, holding almost 1,000 beds.
Inova Fairfax Hospital also holds Northern Virginia’s Level 1 Trauma Center and offers the full spectrum of organ transplantations.
They also have a top-ranked Heart and Vascular Institute, as well as the Fairfax Hospital for Children and the largest Neonatal Intensive-Care Unit in the region.
Founded in 1961, Inova Fairfax Hospital is also a satellite clinical campus for students from many VA universities.
These include Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Virginia, Georgetown University, Marymount University, Howard University, George Mason University and George Washington University.
Inova Hospital is located just off of the Capital Beltway in between Arlington Blvd and Little River Turnpike.
The hospital is 6 miles from Tysons Corner. The area around Inova Fairfax Hospital is conveniently nearby to all the major areas of Northern Virginia.
Old Town Fairfax City is just 5 miles away, Tysons Corner is 6 miles away, and Alexandria and Downtown Washington D.C. are under 15 miles away.

They range from 1,200 square feet to 1,550 square feet with an average square footage of 1,300.
The homes have 3 bedrooms and 2 to 3.5 bathrooms. Most homes have a deck or patio of some sort, as well as being structured to back to trees, creating privacy for the backyards.
The Raintree Townhomes, located on the other side of 495, are just a short walk from Inova Fairfax Hospital.
These 2 level townhomes come with a basement and fenced in brick patio, as well as 3 assigned parking spaces.
They average around 1,548 square feet and have 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
Although the neighborhood backs to 495, it is well separated from the road by a large field, trees, and a cement wall, making sure the close proximity to major roads remains a benefit.
The Jefferson Park Townhomes, located at the intersection of Gatehouse Road and Gallows Road. This makes them just up the street from Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Single Family Homes Near Inova Hospital

• Mantua. Mantua is a neighborhood of single family homes on large lots, right off of 236 and 495 in Fairfax. It is known for its wooded lots and large collection of various types of homes, new and older.
• Camelot. Camelot is a large and sought after neighborhood just south of the hospital off of Woodburn Rd.
• Canterbury Woods. This is a convenient neighborhood about 4 miles from Inova by car. It has a lot of split level homes circa 1960s.
• Holmes Run Acres. This is a special neighborhood walkable to the hospital down Gallows Rd. The homes are mid-century modern, and likely to have an overlay district protecting the home’s style.
The homes are minimalist, but also considered to have potential appreciation due to the rarity of the architecture alone.
• Lake Barcroft. This is a lakeside community, about a 15 minute drive to the east into Falls Church. It has a wide range of homes, including luxurious lakefront property.
• Pimmit Hills. This community started as small affordable homes, and has had a large turnover into different style new construction homes over the years. Very convenient to Tysons Corner, and about a 15 minute drive north of Inova.
• Broyhill Park. This neighborhood is about 2 miles east of the hospital in what is considered “West Falls Church”. An eclectic collection of homes and convenient to Rt. 50.
• Little River Hills. A quaint neighborhood to the west of the hospital, it is about a 10 minute drive. The lots here are large, and many back to parkland and trees. Worth a look.
Condos Near Inova
There are a handful of condo complexes nearby as well. This is perfect if you are going to be working at the hospital but want something smaller, lower maintenance or with great rental potential down the road.

• Woodburn Village. This complex is adjacent to the hospital, and easily walkable to the campus. The buildings are on the older side, but the convenience is unmatched.
• Condos Near Mosaic District. These buildings are newer, closeby to the hospital and have the added benefit of being convenient to Mosaic and the Dunn Loring metro stop.
