The legal address of the neighborhood is in the town of Herndon, VA within Fairfax County.

The Homes

Fox Mill Estates was developed between 1972 and 1985. There are a handful of builders credited with completing homes in the community. The builders who had the biggest footprint are The Yeonas Company and Miller & Smith.

You will find a selection of different models and style of homes. There are colonials, split levels, traditional and contemporary homes. Each have their own different look and curb appeal.

On the interior, the homes have a mostly traditional style depending on the model. You will find defined room including a dining room. However, some are more open. The contemporary homes have a more unique style.

Over the years, many owners have remodeled their properties to reflect a more open concept. Others have kept the traditional style and upgraded the finishes.

Most of the properties have 3-5 bedrooms. The majority of the properties also offer a 2 car attached garage. The homes are 2-3 levels, the difference being some have a dugout basement and others are built without a basement.

The yards in Fox Mill Estates are also generously sized, each plot is about 1/4-1/2 acre in size. The area is filled with mature trees which gives the community a fusion of nature.

The Area & Nearby Amenities

Pinecrest is a member-owned pool that is located within Fox Mill Estates, and allows residents of the 20171 zip code to purchase memberships.

You can get memberships through the waiting list (from the club) or directly from a current member.

The pool is well equipped with lap lanes, a diving well, a water slide and ample deck space for relaxing. The tennis courts are just outside the pool’s fence and are included with membership.

Pinecrest has a tennis team, swim team and dive team that compete locally.

Fox Mill Elementary School is centrally located in the community and has long served the neighborhood. The middle and high schools are also not a far trip by car or bus.

Fairfax County School boundaries are redrawn from time to time. So if you want to know what schools a home feeds to use the official boundary locator.

At the corner of Fox Mill Rd and Reston Parkway is Fox Mill Shopping Center, which at the entrance to the community. For some homeowners it is even walkable.

Here you can find everyday amenities such as a coffee shop, grocery store, banking, convenience store, gas & charging station and more. There is also a selection of restaurants both fast and sit down.

If you want to go for a night out or find a much larger spread of restaurant options, Reston Town Center is about a 10 minute drive on Rt. 286.

This is a large Town Center that also has events, entertainment, corporate offices and a selection of late night options.

There is a silver line metro stop here as well, which leads to Ashburn to the west and east into Washington DC.

• Lakes, Trails & Parks

If you are an outdoor kind of person, you will not need to go far to find your fix. There is an extensive trail system in Reston that wraps around their multiple lakes. This is a great place for a walk, run or bike ride.

You will also find a selection of parks in the surrounding area both large and small.

• Commuting

Fox Mill Estates is located just off Rt 286 (Fairfax County Parkway), a main road that connects into the Dulles Toll Road, Rt 7, Rt 50 and Rt 66. So no matter where you are commuting you will be able to get to a highway fairly quickly.

The Silver Line on the Metrorail also has a few stops closeby. Most likely Herndon or Reston Town Center are the best options, depending on which direction you need to go.

There is a park and ride lot across from the neighborhood as well, and multiple bus stops that run to the metro. Dulles International Airport is a short drive away and connects via metro as well.

• Activities

There are tons of things to do in all seasons and for all ages in Oak Hill and the surrounding areas.

Udvar Hazy Air & Space Museum, multiple golf courses, an ice/hockey rink, recreation clubs, shopping, sport courts, hiking, an outdoor amphitheater and more are all nearby.
